Private Client Tax Manager – Advisory, London, £75k-£85k
Plenty of private client roles describe themselves as advisory. In practice, many turn out to be a compliance-heavy year with some planning attached. This one runs the other way, and that is why it exists.
We are working with a major professional services firm whose London private client practice has more good advisory work than it currently has managers to run it. The team advises wealthy individuals, international families and the trustees who look after their structures, and it needs another Manager who can take a complex piece of work from the first question through to clear, practical advice.
Where you come in
Roughly three-quarters of your time will go on advisory work rather than returns. Expect residence and domicile questions, offshore trust planning, succession planning across the generations, and the cross-border issues that come with clients whose lives and assets sit in more than one country. You will run engagements day to day, keep clients and their other advisers informed, and supervise and develop the junior colleagues who work with you. There is a business development side too, from looking after existing relationships well to noticing where a client needs more help.
Who will do well here
Someone who already does this kind of work at a good level and wants more of it. You may well be in a private client team where the cases are technically demanding and international, and you are comfortable explaining a complicated position plainly to a client or their family office. Breadth matters more than any single specialism: if inheritance tax, for example, has been a smaller part of your work so far, the team is prepared to develop it.
- Strong technical grounding in UK private client tax for internationally connected individuals and trusts
- A track record of managing advisory engagements and client relationships
- Comfort supervising and coaching junior team members
- Ideally CTA, ACA, a law qualification, former HMRC inspector training or an equivalent specialist qualification
What’s on offer
A base salary of £75,000 to £85,000 plus bonus and benefits, and hybrid working, with three days a week in the office and two from home. London is the preferred base, but the firm will consider strong candidates based elsewhere in the UK. The practice is growing, and there is a genuine route upward through the grades for people who perform. If you would like to understand the team before committing to anything, an informal, exploratory conversation can be arranged first, and the process can move quickly once both sides want to proceed.
